Pope Francis remains hospitalized at the University Polyclinic Hospital Agostino Gemelli in Rome. He was admitted to the hospital in a “reasonable” condition last Friday after a one -week bronchitis crisis that worsened. The doctors confirmed a respiratory tract infection and prescribed “absolute rest” along with unspecified drug therapies. Subsequent updates said his slight fever was disappeared and that he was in a “stable” condition.

The Argentine Pope, who had part of a lung removed after pulmonary infection as a young man, is known to be a workaholic who maintains an exhausting pace despite his increasingly precarious health. The Vatican, however, has already announced the cancellation of the Pope’s commitments to the weekend, implying that it is unlikely to be discharged soon.
