The Russian government announced on Tuesday, during conversations in Saudi Arabia, that Russian President Vladimir Putin is serious about negotiating an agreement to end the war in Ukraine, and that Russia would rather reach all your goals peacefully.

Putin sent the Russian army to Ukraine in 2022. He has repeatedly said that he is ready to discuss an end to the war that reflects reality on the ground, where the advance of Russian forces now controls almost one fifth of the Ukrainian territory.

Western intelligence, European leaders, and former US President Joe Biden have said they don’t believe Putin really wants peace, although US President Donald Trump says he thinks Putin is serious.

“President Putin has repeated his words about his willingness to peace negotiations from the beginning,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

“The main thing for us is to achieve our goals. And, of course, we prefer peaceful means to achieve our goals. ” He added.

Peskov said it is not yet known about a date for a meeting between although they can bring them clarity. According to him, it is impossible to give an idea of the negotiations, as they have just started.

Asked if Putin was willing to negotiate specifically with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Peskov replied that Putin had repeatedly said yes.

But he also stated that any agreement would have to take into account a possible challenge to Zelensky’s legitimacy, a reference to the fact that he remained in office beyond the end of his normal term because Ukraine is under martial law.

Peskov said that A is a sovereign right of Ukraine, if he wishes it, but that Moscow’s position is different when it comes to joining military alliances.

Moscow stated that one of the objectives of what he calls “special military operation” is to avoid any perspective of Ukraine’s adhesion to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Alliance (NATO), which would be considered a threat to Russia’s security.
