In the Mediterranean, the company wants to create a gas node.
The Italian energy company ENI signed an agreement on the export of gas from Cyprus underwater deposits through Egypt to Europe on Monday. The Italian company described the agreement as “a milestone on the road to the creation of a gas node in the Eastern Mediterranean.”
On the basis of an agreement, which includes the French company Totalenergies, the gas from the Cronos Block 6 Cronos Block 6 Cyprus is liquefied in the Damtibet LNG plant in Egypt. From there it will then be exported to Europe. Eni and totalenergies have a 50 % share in Cronos Block 6. In addition, the Italian company checks 50 % at the Damtiba gas liquefaction plant.
Cronos Block 6, which discovered in 2022, is estimated to contain more than 3 trillion cubic tracks (approximately 85 billion m3) of gas. In addition, ongoing survey points to other potential gas sources in the area. As the head of ENI Claudio Descalzi said, this agreement paves the way to ensure the supply of gas from Cyprus to markets in the foreseeable future, which will contribute to strengthening the energy security of Europe.
