The chairwoman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, Markéta Pekarová Adam, will not stand in the upcoming parliamentary elections. She announced the decision on Tuesday on the social network X and justified it with health problems. Top 09 will lead to the November Assembly, informs TASR newsletter in Prague.

“After a thorough reasoning, I decided not to run in the upcoming elections to the Chamber of Deputies. My reasons are purely health. My current health does not allow me to participate in a demanding election campaign, doctors do not strongly recommend it to me, on the contrary“wrote Pekar Adam.

She added that the decision was not easy for her. On Tuesday it was announced by the Party Party Top 09 and also gave the post of party chair. According to her, the management supported her and expressed her wish to remain in office until the end of the mandate in November this year.

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, whose ODS party, together with Top 09 and KDU-ČSL coalition together, commented on her decision by saying that it was sorry. “Health is, of course, first. Nevertheless, I am very sorry that Markéta cannot run for the future elections. Cooperation with her is both human and professionally great, which we have agreed on, and always paid, “he appreciated the head of the lower chamber Fiala and highlighted her merits at the functioning of the coalition together.
