“They want to arrest the biggest leader on the right and silence millions of Brazilians,” said Sostenes Cavalcante on his X profile
The leader of the PL in the House of Representatives, (RJ), wrote in his No X (former Twitter) this Thursday (18.FEV.2025) that the complaint of the Attorney General, Paulo Gonet, against the former president (PL) is a “absurd”.
“This is not justice, it is political war! They want to arrest the biggest leader on the right and shut up millions of Brazilians. If you think we’ll accept your head down, they are very wrong! Brazil is not Cuba! ”said Sostenes.
“Those who stole trillions are free, who saved Brazil is being chased. What “democracy” is this? The people are not muggle! Bolsonaro back! ”wrote the PL leader in the House.
Understand the case
The PGR, Paulo Gonet, denounced Bolsonaro and 33 more people involved in the investigation that investigates what would be an attempt to coup d’état after the 2022 elections – vested by the current president (PT).
The complaint was sent to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the investigation in the Supreme Court (STF), on the night of this 3rd (18.FEV.2025). Also denounced the former minister and former vice on the Bolsonaro plate, General Braga Netto; and the former joint of orders Mauro Cid.
Those reported by Gonet are responsible for the crimes of integrating criminal organization, qualified damage with violence and deterioration against heritage. With this, Bolsonaro can take up 14 years of prison.
Read below the penalty determined for each crime:
- Violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law – 4 to 8 years in prison;
- Coup of State – 4 to 12 years in prison;
- Integrate criminal organization – 3 to 8 years in prison;
- Qualified damage against Union patrimony – 6 months to 3 years;
- and deterioration of listed assets – 1 to 3 years.
Now the Supreme decides whether to accept the complaint and make defendants those indicated by PGR. In this case, they would respond to a criminal action in the court.
A criminal case involves hearings with the accused, interrogation and other steps. After the requirements and steps, the final allegations are made and the Court gives a decision on the penalties of each of those involved.
The Supreme can also send the case back to the first instance – in case a possible prison of Bolsonaro would be longer.
