In call with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, France President Emmanuel Macron agreed that it is necessary to open peace negotiations in Ukraine with both sides on the table, including Russia in conversations, in a change of posture of Europeans, that until then they had been talking only with the Ukrainian side.

“I expressed my concern with the international scenario and reaffirmed Brazil’s commitment to the promotion of peace and the defense of democracy. We both recognize the importance of a solution to the war in Ukraine that includes the participation of all parties involved in the conflict, ”Lula wrote on his social networks after the call with Macron.

The president of France reiterated the same position also through social networks. “I just talked to President Lula. We believe together that peace in Ukraine can only be achieved through discussions that gather Russia and Ukraine around the same table. Peace is possible and the international community must mobilize, ”wrote Macron.

The change of posture of Europeans comes at a time when the United States, under Donald Trump, try to open peace negotiations with Russia, but isolating Europe. The US president even said that European countries would not be called for negotiation.
