The president (PT), do honored the mining poet Adélia Prado with the Camões Literature Award, highlighting the relevance of her work in a scenario marked by misinformation and negationism. According to Lula, Adelia’s poetry is an important call to the truth, especially in times when the lie spreads. Considered the most prestigious Portuguese Language Award, the Camões Award aims to recognize authors who make significant contributions to the cultural and literary heritage of the language. Lula stressed that, in times of crisis, resistance is fundamental and that politics should always prioritize people, just as Adelia’s poetry does.

The award ceremony took place at the Itamaraty Palace, where Adélia’s son, Eugênio Prado, represented the author, who could not attend due to health problems. In his absence, Adelia sent a message of thanks and a “fraternal hug” to the president of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who was also present at the event. Annually, the Camões Award is granted to writers of the community of Portuguese -speaking countries and includes a 100,000 euros award, half of which is funded by the National Library Foundation. After the prize, Lula and the First Lady organized a dinner in honor of the Portuguese president and other authorities present at the ceremony.
