Morocco has settled in the Sahara its supercentro of operations of the tomato that threatens Spain. It is a hub fruit and vegetable of which there is already 20% of the total tomatoes that take forward.
The situation is striking because the Court of Justice of the European Union ruled last October that cherry tomatoes and melons Charentais collected in the Western Sahara must include in its labeling a mention that requires its origin of that territory and not of Morocco .
The Court based in Luxembourg indicated that any other indication that is implanted in these products “would be misleading and could error to the consumedr”.
The EU Court of Justice assured in a statement that, as products imported to Europe, melons and tomatoes collected in the Western Sahara must indicate their country of origin by virtue of the regulations of the Union.
Despite the judicial decision, Morocco seems to be operating around Dakhla, in the Sahara. Through four large groups they indistinctly produce a large number of tomatoes.
As reported ABCamong the companies are Les Domaines Agricoles, a society to which it belongs to a holding From Mohamed VI, the largest agri -food in the country in North Africa.
