Scientists at the American Oncological Center City of Hope, located in Duarte, California, studied the influence of Champignon mushroom extract on the immune system and cancer cell growth.
Research has shown that polysaccharides contained in these fungi, including β-glucans, are able to activate immune processes and improve the body’s ability to fight oncological diseases.
Within the laboratory tests performed on cancer patients, there was an increase in T cell activity, which indicates an intensification of the immune response. Subsequently, the research continued with the participation of eight patients diagnosed with prostate cancer. Clinical tests have shown positive changes in the functioning of their immune system, confirming the results obtained on animal models.
In addition, scientists have found that the association of Champignon mushroom extract with immunotherapy has a stronger effect compared to traditional treatment methods. Patients who followed combined therapy had a higher survival rate and better recovery.
Despite these promising conclusions, the specialists underline the importance of additional studies before recommending the inclusion of fungi in the therapeutic nutrition. Also, before changing the diet, it is necessary to consult a doctor.
