Francisco has been hospitalized since Friday with bilateral pneumonia
The Pope is seriously concerned about his health and is already preparing his succession, who says that Francis is resolving pending issues such as naming people for key positions.
According to two people close to the Pope, Francisco – who removed part of a lung when he was young – expressed in private that he is sure that this time he will not stand the disease.
Initially, Francisco resisted being hospitalized, but doctors assured him that he would die if he stayed in his room at the Vatican.
“He may not die now, but of course he will eventually die. We all die – and he is an 88 -year -old man with pulmonary problems, “said a Vatican employee.
Now the Pope is fulfilling the doctors’ orders and accepted the decision not to make Sunday’s sermon.
Last month, the Pope has been ending tasks he had pending and extended the mandate of Italian cardinal Giovanni Battista Re as a dean of the Cardinian College. It will be that it will be up to supervise some preparations for a potential conclave for selecting a new Pope.
According to a medical report released on Tuesday by the Vatican, on the fifth day of hospitalization, Pope Francis, 88, continues with a complex clinical condition, with bilateral pneumonia.
“The chest examination that the Holy Father performed this afternoon (…) demonstrated the presence of bilateral pneumonia that required additional drug treatment. Pope Francis is, however, in a good mood, ”reads in the announced statement.
The Vatican had already canceled the religious leader’s commitments on Tuesday for the next weekend due to his health.
“Due to the health of the Holy Father, the Jubilee Hearing on Saturday, February 22, was canceled” and Francisco will not be able to preside over Sunday Mass, was announced in a statement.
The Pope has been hospitalized since Friday in Rome, with the admitted Vatican that Francisco had a “complex clinical picture”.
