The Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, accused of trying to give a coup in Brazil three years ago. The Attorney General’s Office has filed a complaint against the former ultra -conservative president for, allegedly having maneuvered to try to reverse the electoral result of 2022, in which Lula da Silva returned to the presidency.
Bolsonaro has also been accused of violent abolition of the democratic state of law and criminal organization. The attorney general, Paulo Gonet, said that during his mandate “he adopted a growing tone of rupture with institutional normality in his repeated public statements, in which he expressed his discontent with decisions from higher courts and with the electronic electoral system in force.” From the elections, Bolsonaro “has become more anti -democratic,” according to the attorney. “This climb gained greater impulse when (…) Lula, seen as the strongest contender in the electoral race, became eligible, due to the cancellation of his criminal sentences,” he added, as collected by the news portal G1.
The Brazilian Public Ministry has indicated that in the complaint, together with Bolsonaro, another 34 people are also accused of “attempt at violent abolition of the democratic state of law”, “Organization for armed crime” and “coup d’etat”, between Other crimes. The Supreme will now decide if he accepts the complaint made by the Attorney General and prosecuted the former head of state and the rest of the defendants, among which there are high -ranking military and former ministers.
The prosecution’s complaint is based on an extensive police investigation that confirmed the existence of a plot that sought Bolsonaro and the former minister and general of the Walter Braga Netto reserve were the “leaders” of the conspiracy plot. “Both accepted, stimulated and performed acts typified in the criminal legislation of attack against the legal good of the existence and independence of the powers and the rule of democratic law,” says the prosecutor.
According to the Federal Police, Bolsonaro and another 39 people were involved in the coup plot, including Netto, retired general and former minister of the Presidency and Defense in the Ultra Government. Braga Netto was also a candidate for the vice presidency.
“Zero concern”
A day before the Brazilian Prosecutor’s Office filed the complaint against Bolsonaro, the Ultra claimed not to be worried about the lawsuit. “I have no concern with the accusations, zero,” said the ultra -rightist leader, who now awaits access to the cars of the case and the testimony of his former personal assistant Mauro Cid, who has collaborated with the police investigations. However, the supreme insists that the defense of Bolsonaro “always” has had “total access to cars.”
Since the authorities requisitioned Bolsonaro’s passport in February last year in the framework of the investigation, the ex -president has been prevented from traveling abroad several times. Meanwhile, the Brazilian ultra -right is pressing the legislators of Central and right January 8, 2023.
The ultra -rightist summoned manifestations “throughout Brazil” against the government of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for next March 16. “Our agenda: freedom of expression, security, cost of living, outside Lula 2026 and Amnesty already,” said the retired captain from the army. The Supreme has already condemned 374 people for that episode, in which Bolsonaro appears as investigated for encouraging his acolytes.
The call for this day of protests occurs at a delicate moment for a lula that dealt with the worst popularity rates of its three mandates as president, since it already ruled between 2003 and 2010. According to a survey of the Datafolha Institute published on Friday, the Lula management approval index collapsed from 35 % to 24 % in two months.
Among the factors behind that fall are, according to the folk newspaper of São Paulo, government communication errors, false news about some economic proposals and inflation that, although it has stabilized around 4.5 %, has increased the Cost of living, especially food.
Bolsonaro also faces other ongoing investigations in the criminal sphere. The Police also filed charges against him for the alleged improper appropriation of valuable jewels that should have been incorporated into the state’s collection and fraud in the Vaccination certificates of the COVID-19.
In addition, electoral justice disabled it until 2030 for delegitimizing democratic institutions and disseminating false news about the electoral process. However, the captain retired from the army, who declares himself a victim of an alleged judicial “persecution, is confident that Congress, dominated by conservative forces, can clean his name to be able to appear to the presidential 2026.
