Valentine’s Day, Birthdays or Nameday are opportunities when we usually get beautiful bouquets from our loved ones, including roses. Nothing, however, is as sad as the moment when the plants wilted and lose their petals. What to do when the rose falls? There is a simple trick that extends the life of flowers in a vase. One ingredient is enough.

Roses in the vase may look amazing, but their beauty may be, unfortunately, transient. Often after a few hours, they start to hang and the petals gradually lose their elasticity. Why do the roses fall so quickly? To blame is too warm water, lack of oxygen in the stems or invisible growth of bacteria. Fortunately, there is a way to save them. Just use a simple “revival” method that immediately gives them freshness and allows you to enjoy the beauty of flowers longer.

What can be done to revive roses in a vase? Several measures to extend their freshness

It is advisable to pay them a little attention before putting roses in the vase. First of all, cut the stems properly. It is best to do it at an angle, a sharp knife, to increase the surface of the absorbing water. Scissors are not a good choice as they can crush tissues and make hydration difficult. Flowers are also good to cut underwater so that the air does not get into them, which could damage the stems and speed up wilting.

Equally important is to remove the bottom leaves that immersed in water quickly start rot and create an ideal environment for bacteria. The vase itself must be perfectly clean. Just wash it with warm water with a little vinegar or soap to get rid of all deposits. Roses feel best in cold, fresh water that you should exchange daily. It is also good to provide a suitable place – away from the radiator and fruit, especially apples or bananas that exclude ethylene that speeds up the aging of flowers. If you take the steps immediately, your bouquet will please the eye for much longer.

What to add to the water to cut roses? This component will affect their lifetime

In addition to proper care, it is a great way to extend the freshness of roses, a universal flower product that we can buy in every horticulture. It is a special mixture of nutrients that gives the flowers energy and helps them stay longer. In addition, the bactericidal substances it contains suppress the growth of microorganisms that can clog stems and prevent water intake. Simply dilute it according to the instructions on the packaging and add to the water when replacing. Regular use of the product not only maintains the fresh look of your bouquet, but also its intense color and shape for a longer period of time.

If you do not have a flower treatment product, you can also use other ways of extending the life of the roses

  • Mince – Copper has antibacterial properties, so it hinders the growth of microorganisms that accelerate the wilting of flowers. Just throw it in a vase and you’re done.
  • Aspirin – Dissolved in water improves the flow of water in the stems and slows the rotting process. One tablet per liter of water can significantly extend the life of the bouquet.
  • Dental prosthesis tablets – Removes bacteria and molds that multiply rapidly in the water.

Add a few drops to the water. The bouquet lasts fresh up to a few weeks
