In the village pub we do not get such services so often, but in a better restaurant they usually bring coffee together with a glass of water. Should we rather drink a delicious drink? No, it’s a little different.
The idea that the water served to coffee is to drink, apparently in our country was created at a time when we could only dream of coffee and other variants. The coffee – even in better restaurants – served in the then classic form, as a “Turk” with a Loger at the bottom of the mug. And because the ground coffee beans often got between the teeth, it was good to rinse the mouth in a suitable way. But those times are gone, so why is this custom (and even much more abundantly) expanded and we get water to coffee in most cases? This is because the reason is really somewhere else.

From what water is coffee ready?
There are several explanations why to connect coffee with water and come from different historical periods. One of the first talks about some caution from a time when quality water was not a matter of course not only in households, but also logically in restaurants. And because you do not see coffee as well as the clean water, they said the innkeeper was a demonstration of being cooked from really clean water. This is possible, but other theories are more graspable from today’s perspective.
Let the coffee sound properly
Coffee should be associated with a certain taste experience, we do not drink it just because we are thirsty, but to enjoy it. So we can flush the previous tastes before the first sip, which may still fade in the mouth. Only freshness will remain that underlines the valers of individual coffee species and also the way it is preparation. Simply put – only with perfectly clean mouth can we fully enjoy coffee.
Replace fluids
But then there is another logical reason, this time rather intended. Coffee, as we usually know, drains the body. Thus, it makes a lot of sense to swallow with it at least a sip of water to compensate the body with the probable loss of the water caused by the coffee. Whatever explanation we choose, one thing is certain: water simply belongs to coffee.
Deep into history
Do you also love a while at a cup of coffee? Then you may be interested in that its history dates back to the 15th century, when they began to consciously grow it and mainly cultivate it in the territories of today’s Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Soon after, she also got into Persia, Egypt, Syria and of course Turkey.
Embarrassing acceptance
Central and Western European countries have seen coffee at the beginning of the seventeenth century, and it should be remembered that not all of it were enthusiastic. Especially the supporters of the good old order called her a drink (as well as otherwise…). At the end of the century, however, the first cafes began to appear in Europe and the black water from the Arab world has settled us for good. Did you know that or is it new information for you? Whatever it is, you don’t just want a cup of good coffee?
