On Mount Etna in Sicily (Italy), some bolds were filmed while skiing and making snowboarding just a few meters away from boiling lava.
Impressive images were filmed on February 13 and instantly attracted the attention of Instagram users. The images show two skiers quickly descending a slope on one side and lava redded on the other. In one of the videos, a snowboarder passes a few centimeters around a molten magma flow, risking a deadly trap.
In the background, the rattles of the eruption are heard, and on the horizon the black ashes are swollen. In another image, two extremist athletes stop to admire the fascinating but threatening natural phenomenon. One of the brave skiers happened to be Marco Basso, a popular blogger with 416,000 followers on Instagram. He was the one who captured these amazing moments and shared them with his followers. He subtitled one of the videos, “walking on Mars”, emphasizing the fantastic and unreal landscape around it.
“In my 40s I have seen a lot of things, but the descent beside a river that flows is something special, incredible and simply amazing,” Marco acknowledged that this experience was one of the most unforgettable from his life. However, not all subscribers shared his delight. Many users have expressed their concern, warning about the dangers of such stunts.
“You are too close! A single mistake and you will get to the lava, ”wrote a commentator.
According to Basso, the slope’s fault appeared just a few days ago and has already generated a strong lava flow that stretched more than 1,000 meters. So far, the flow has reached three kilometers, but for now it is not a serious threat to settlements.
Daily Star notes that Etna, located on the east coast of Sicily, is one of the most active volcanic areas in the world. The volcano erupts regularly, the last rash starting on February 11th. Despite this fact, the mountain remains a popular ski destination, especially in full season.
