Associations that gather restaurants, bars and hosting companies have sent a letter to the Economy Minister, in defense of the regulation of food aid programs.
In the document, headed by ANR (National Restaurant Association), the associations ask the government to regulate a law, sanctioned in 2022, which provides for the payment of food valleys and the modernization of the PAT (Worker Food Program).
PAT offers tax incentive for companies that guarantee health and food resources to their employees. The country brings together more than 22 million beneficiaries by food and meal vouchers.
According to ANR, the operators of these vouchers undermine the food sector with “exorbitant rates”.
“The regulation of Law 14,442/22, as approved by the National Congress, promises to correct these distortions, promoting greater efficiency, competition and cost reduction for the food sector outside the home, through better negotiation conditions and fair prices,” he says the document sent to the minister.
“Similar measures such as credit card interoperability have already been successful to benefit bars and restaurants, improving competitiveness and reducing costs.”
Reduction in the costs of food valleys has been defended by the Lula administration as a measure to help reduce food inflation.
