Only the elders will remember a sticker that some parents stick to the cars, which said, “Want to know wildlife? Have children.” We’re talking here about prehistoria prior to social networks, of course. But those who have had to improvise juggling to try to entertain the young on vacation inside an apartment will understand. Or maybe not so much, as these little ones are preferring to stick to a screen going around hitting leg. But let’s talk about that time when we decided to pull out the people from the couch and take it to the bush, maybe even the mountain. Can you reconcile?

The mountaineer Alexandre Gazinhato, known as French, says he takes little Bento, from one year and ten months, to trails and mountains “from 3 months”. The boy, who has all the equipment of an adult – slap, long -sleeved clothes and goggles -, goes in a seat in his father’s backpack and, at home, has already gained an appropriate climbing wall for his development.

“We only lead you to environments we know,” explains French, “because you can’t go to uncertainty, planning has to be better when you are with a child, you won’t take the same risks.” He recommends that “everyone takes their child to the natural environment, to the mountain, because when the child grows and lived in green, it has the feeling that it is a safe, comfortable area, and if it happens until the age of five of age, there will be this forever in your life. “

From a medical point of view, pediatrician, hebiatric and mountaineer Rodrigo Rodriguez, from Hospital Sabará in São Paulo, says that Priori there is no contraindication of activities in the bush or mountain for any age. But it warns of some essential care ranging from ensuring that vaccination coverage is complete and the child can eat all foods, usually from one year of age, to ensure “extra care of water quality, always with full treatment” .

“Children who use dairy formulas need extra care as they spoil very quickly,” adds the doctor. “And in the case of backpacks, most have the appropriate age range for the age and weight of the child indicated by the manufacturer.” Long -range and high intensity trips for adolescents, recommends, require cardiac assessment before picking the road.

For the pediatrician who one day he dropped his career to live in the Manoel Morgado mountains, and who specializes in taking groups to challenging destinations such as Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua and Trekking to Everest Camp, a child under 13 not enters your expeditions. “The dynamics of the group would have to change in the case of young children,” he explains. For teenagers above this age, he says that it has been frequent to search for entire families who want to live these experiences together. “The only problem with them is that, because they are very strong and vigorous, they want to walk faster, to arrive soon, and we need to hold them to ensure the acclimatization of the whole group,” he says.

The high -mountain guide Pedro Hauck, who only admits in his journeys over 13 years accompanied by his parents, points out that the (UIAA) International Union of Alpinism Associations clearly recommends not taking children under 8 to the climbing of life. “I have taken a 15 -year -old teenager to the summit of Licancabur, with 5,900 meters altitude, but the requirement has to be well grown and healthy, because mountaineering is demanding,” he adds.

And it is from 8 years that Magno Souza, specialist in Amazonian scripts and climbed to the iconic Monte Roraima and Pico da Fog, accepts his clients. “We have already taken children to Mount Roraima and the first we seek to know is whether the child is active, likes activities in the wild, if they have any experience in camp, and interviewed parents to identify if they are aware of the specific care” different attention from those different from of adults in an expedition, “he says.
