Consumer confidence index fell to 123.5 points, registering a 7.3% drop compared to the same month of 2024 and 1.7% compared to December
The beginning of the year has shown a challenging period for São Paulo families, with a series of expenses significantly impacting the household budget. Among the main expenses are the, and, which, added to the high of inflation, have pressured family income. A survey conducted by (Fecomércio) revealed a drop in families consumption, reflecting the need for caution and containment of expenses.
The Consumer Confidence Index (ICC), measured by Fecomércio, recorded 123.5 points in January, representing a 7.3% drop over the same month of the previous year. Comparing January 2025 with December 2024, the fall was 1.7%. Nevertheless, the family consumer intention rate has increased by 3.1% compared to December, reaching 111 points. However, in the annual comparison, there was a 1.7%reduction.
Fecomércio points out that January data reflects the difficulties faced by the population due to the increase in the typical expenses of the beginning of the year. In addition, the economic forecast for 2025 is not optimistic, with inflation projections around 55%, which should continue to challenge consumers in the coming months.
