The young British tennis player Emma Raducanu went through a difficult time during the Dubai Open, when she spotted a man who had approached her on the street sitting in the front row of the public. Visibly shaken, he went to referee Miriam Bley before hiding behind his chair in tears.
WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) confirmed that the individual had “obsessive behavior” and had already bothered Raducanu the day before, in a public place. As soon as it was identified in the benches, the authorities intervened and expelled him, temporarily interrupting the game against Czech Karolina Muchova.
After the man’s expulsion, the match resumed. Later, on social networks, Raducanu described the episode as a “difficult experience”, but highlighted his determination to continue to compete.
WTA banned the individual from all his events while evaluating the threat. This is not the first time that Raducanu has faced a situation of this kind, already in 2022 had to obtain a restriction order against a man who pursued her to his home.
