Al Sisi meets with the king and Sánchez in Madrid to talk about Gaza and Trump’s plans
The King and the Chief of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will hold on Wednesday, meetings with the president of Egypt, Abdelfatah al Sisi, on the occasion of his official visit to Spain and in which they will address the situation of Gaza and the plan for the strip of the strip of the President of the United States, Donald Trump.
Al Sisi, who arrived in Madrid on Tuesday, makes his second visit to Spain, which will serve for the two countries to raise their bilateral relationship to the strategic association level. This is what Sánchez and the Egyptian President agree at the meeting they will hold at the Moncloa Palace.
The chief of the Executive has visited Egypt four times, and in one of them, in November 2023, he already advanced in the passage of Rafah that Spain would recognize Palestine as a state if the European Union did not agree to do so jointly. Months later, on May 28, he took the step and Spain made that recognition with Ireland and another European country not belonging to the EU, Norway, in a decision applauded by the Arab countries, including Egypt.
The evolution of the situation in Gaza, at a time of high fire between Israel and Hamas, and Trump’s plan for the strip that goes through its population to Egypt and Jordan, will be present at the appointment provided in La Moncloa and in which he will subsequently keep the SISI with the king in the Royal Palace.
Sanchez has already made clear its rejection of Trump’s intentions, considering that population expulsions are “unacceptable” that the only exit to the conflict goes through the solution of the two states. This will be transmitted to the Egyptian President again, with whom he will preside over the signing of several agreements, including the one that will raise the range of the bilateral relationship and others on economic cooperation and circular migration.
Sánchez and Al Sisi will appear before journalists to make a statement at the end of their conversation. It will be after the meeting in Moncloa when the SISI will move to the Royal Palace for meeting with Felipe VI prior to an official lunch offered by the kings in which both the monarch and the Egyptian president will take the floor.
