When to kick crocuses from the garden? Read before you hurry up

Crocuses are onion plants that can grow in one place for several years. It is not always necessary to dig them out, but there are situations in which it is worth doing. Excessive density of bulbs limits their growth and flowering. So if you see that your crocuses spend smaller flowers, it means that it is worth digging them. In this way, you will not only contribute to their abundant flowering, but you will prevent the disease from moving.

If you want to multiply crocuses or change their cultivation, you also need to start by digging them. Changing a crocus area of discounts is often necessary when the soil in which they grow is too moist and there is a risk of rotting bulbs. By default, we exaggerate crocuses every 3-4 years.

The right time to dig the bulbs falls after the vegetation, i.e. in the summerwhen the leaves are completely dried. Most often it is the end of June or the beginning of July. Although it tempts us to dig plants immediately after flowering, too early removal of bulbs can weaken them with plants and affect their future flowering.

Ideal weather conditions for digging crocuses are sunny and dry day. The soil should not be too wet to prevent the bulbs to prevent. This will increase the risk of fungal diseases.

Although crocuses are extremely resistant plants, their bulbs are easy to damage when digging. To prevent this, start by preparing tools. Use a garden fork or shoulder, which will allow you to gently lift the soil without damaging the bulbs. How to dig a step by step crotch?

  • Carefully stick the garden forks or a shoulder blade into the ground at a distance of about 10 cm from the place where crocuses grew;
  • Gently challenge the earth and lifting it up, check if the bulbs are visible.
  • manually remove the onions from the ground, trying not to damage their roots;
  • If they are connected into large clumps, they are gently separated to facilitate planting in a new place;
  • Remove the residues of the soil, but do not wash the bulbs with water.

Put the crocus bulbs to a few days in a breathable, shaded place to make it dry well.

After drying the crocus bulbs, see them thoroughly. Remove those that are rotten or damaged, and store the rest in a dry, airy place. PLie in boxes, in which air flow is possible, in a dark place. This will prevent them from germinating.

Place the onions stored in this autumn. September is the best time for planting crocuses. Thanks to this, the plants will be able to root well before the upcoming winter to bloom in early spring with white, purple and yellow.
