At least 21 others suffered injuries.
At a collision of a bus with a truck in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo in the southeast of the country, 12 university students died and at least 21 suffered injuries, the Brazilian authorities reported on Friday. According to the AFP report, TASR writes about it.
The accident occurred on Thursday’s late local time when students were returning home from the Franco Private University, the local civil protection office said. All 21 injured were taken to the hospital and most of them have already been released. One of the injured suffered skull injury and three others are hospitalized, but in a stabilized state.
“We woke up with the sad news of this tragedy, which killed 12 students in the terrible accident accident and a truck,” wrote the governor of Sao Paulo Tarcisio Freitas on social network X.
The truck driver was accused of escaping from the scene of the accident and killing of negligence
The official statement of the government of this Brazilian state states that the truck driver “accused of escaping from the scene of the accident, killing negligence and bodily harm for negligence”.
The accident happened only a few weeks after a bus crash in the neighboring Brazilian state Minas Gerais died 41 people in December 2024.
