From 2026, units will have autonomy to enforce the law on student devices
The (National Council of Education) approved this Thursday (20.FEV.2025) a set of guidelines on the ban on cell phones in Brazilian schools. The decision, made by the rapporteur Israel Batista, aims to adapt educational institutions to digital realities.
The document offers schools the autonomy to decide on the storage of student mobile devices. Options include keeping them with students, storing them in a box under classroom teacher supervision or placing them in cabinets at the school entrance.
Israel Batista highlighted the importance of school autonomy, emphasizing the need for each institution to choose the method that best suits its reality.
The report also guides schools to develop their prohibition policies in collaboration with teachers, students and families, establishing clear rules and consequences for those who do not comply them.
The CNE document points out that the choice of mobile storage model should consider the specific characteristics of each school, such as infrastructure and institutional culture.
