Portugal was one of the four EU Member States where the Middle Ages increased
People lived an average of 44.7 years in 2024, in the European Union (EU), two more than in 2014, according to data released by Eurostat, with the age ranging from 39.4 years in Ireland and 48.7 years in Italy.
In Portugal, according to the European Statistical Service Bulletin, it was lived in 2024 to an average age of 47.1 years, compared to 46.9 of 2023 and 43.1 of 2014.
Portugal was one of the four EU Member States where the Middle Ages increased the most-four years-in a decade, along with Slovakia, Greece and Italy.
The average EU growth was 2.2 years since 2014, and Malta (seven months) and Germany (one month) had setbacks in the average life age.
On January 1, 2024, the average age of EU population was 44.7 years, which means half of the EU people were over 44.7 years, while the other half was younger.
