Result comes from a project that brings together community associations and partners to ensure commercialization and flow of production

The native rubber crop in the Amazon generated R $ 2.2 million in lace for 500 rubber tappers in 2024. The result is the result of the project Together by the Amazon – revitalization of the rubber extractive chain, an initiative aimed at strengthening local sociobioeconomics and promote the conservation of the forest.

Production reached 160 tons, a 23% growth compared to 2023, benefiting extractivists in the municipalities of Canutama, Itacoatiara, Pauini, Manicoré, Novo Airão and Eirunepé.

The project started in 2022, with a volume of 65 tons. In 2023, production doubled to 130 tons, despite the historical drought that hit the Amazon. “Drought left many rubber tappers isolated, without access to fuel and drinking water. Even so, they managed to increase production“Said Jhassem Siqueira, sustainability analyst of the Chico Mendes Memorial (MCM).

Currently, rubber needs to be sent for processing in Igapiúna (BA) due to the absence of its own plant in Amazonas. The Federal Government’s grant for native Amazon rubber is $ 3.00 per kg, with a state increase of $ 2.00. In some municipalities, there are still additional incentives, ranging from R $ 0.50 to R $ 1.00 per GK produced.

The initiative is coordinated by in partnership with MCM, the National Council of Extractive Populations (CNS), WWF-France, Michelin and other organizations.
