The (STF) intends to judge in 2025 the former president (PL) and the others reported by the (PGR) for alleged attempted coup. The Court wants to accelerate the case to prevent the trial from interfering in the 2026 presidential dispute.
Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the case, must set up a special office to analyze the complaints. In addition, the first class of the Supreme Court, responsible for receiving the accusations, can reorganize its agenda to ensure space for the trial.
Nevertheless, the Court is expecting that the trial will take place in the first half of 2025 or, at most, at the beginning of the second. This would allow resources to be analyzed by the end of the year, enabling possible penalties before the 2026 electoral process.
However, defense lawyers should resort to strategies to postpone the progress of the case.
On Tuesday (18), by involvement in an alleged plot to prevent the inauguration of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) after the 2022 elections.
The Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, should still submit new complaints in the coming weeks, following a strategy of slicing the case, with division by nuclei of the investigated.

The next step will be the STF analysis of receiving the complaint. If the Court accepts the accusation, the accused will have a deadline to submit their defenses before the formal opening of the criminal action.
