The identity of the dead and the state of health of the injured have not been disclosed so far by the authorities.
An accident involving an bus and a truck carrying college students left 12 dead and 19 injured in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, which occurred at dawn on Friday, according to local authorities.
The bus took students from the University of Franca (Unifran) to the municipality of São Joaquim da Barra, where they lived.
The São Paulo Fire Department informed a message on social network X that 19 victims were rescued and confirmed that the accident caused 12 dead. The rescue was completed around 4:00 am (07:00 in Lisbon).

In the truck was only the driver, who could be arrested in the act for omission of relief, murder and bodily injury after leaving the hospital, according to information released by TV Globo.
The governor of the Brazilian State of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, regretted the accident in a message on social networks.
“We dawn with the sad news of this tragedy that killed 12 university students in a terrible accident between a bus and a truck on the Waldir Canevari highway in the Ribeirão Preto region,” wrote Freitas.
“Students returning from the University of Franca and had their dreams interrupted. We will closely follow the investigations into the reasons that contributed to this tragedy. My most sincere and deep feelings to family and friends of the victims, ”he added.
Several groups belonging to the university shared a statement on their social networks lamenting the accident and providing solidarity to the victims’ families.
