The 2024 rally of Portugal, which took place from May 9-12, had an estimated economic impact of 183.3 million euros, plus 18.6 million (11.29%) compared to 2023, this Thursday was disclosed.
The event generated 93.67 million euros in direct expense by fans, teams and organization in the regions, and 36% came from foreign visitors, of which 25% visited the country for the first time.
The data released are from a study promoted by the University of Algarve on the 2024 Rali of Portugal, an organized test by the Club of Portugal (ACP), which is part of the WRC (World Rally Championship) calendar.
The study states that the event, held between May 9 and 12, 2014, in 14 municipalities in the North and Center, “demonstrated a transformative impact, combining economic development, media valorization and reinforcement of territorial identity”.
The race, which generated a 22.6 ME tax revenue, attracted 1.2 million assists over four days and an average stay of 2.9 nights (3.2 nights for foreign tourists) exceeded the usual values of the regions. North (1.9 nights) and Center (1.8 nights).
The media range of the rally was equally expressive: the total television transmission time was 873 hours and 15 minutes, with 90% of that time to be broadcast live in more than 100 countries.
The most impacted foreign markets were Japan, Finland, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom and Indonesia, to which new emerging markets like Türkiye, Taiwan and Chile were joined.
Also according to the study, the perception of Portugal’s image through the regions involved was widely positive, with 94.8% of national visitors and 96.9% of foreign visitors to classify it as “good” or “very good” .
“The destination was classified as beautiful, green, welcoming, with emphasis on its nature and gastronomy,” says the work of.
Regarding the organization of the rally, “the most referred to the words were spectacular, organized, adrenaline, emotion and conviviality, and most, about 66%, expressed intention to return in winter.”
