Cases of infarction increase in the Algarve: Faro Hospital among those who receive the most patients

The number of suspected cases of acute myocardial infarction sent by the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) increased by 13.2% in 2024, reaching almost 2,400 patients across the country. The Algarve reported 164 cases, with the Hospital de Faro being one of the most patients through Via Verde Coronary, with 182 admissions, according to data released by INEM.

I INEM’s Northern Delegation doctor, Rogério Moreira Marques, said this increase is probably due to the improvement of records made by firefighters, Red Cross and emergency teams.

“This progressive increase will most likely be related to the increase in records in Iteams [INEM Tool for Emergency Alert Medical System] For the firefighters and corporations of the Portuguese Red Cross, our partners of the Integrated Emergency Medical System, and also with the improvement of the records made by the INEM means, ”he explained.

Faro Hospital with a large number of admissions

The Faro district was the fifth with more cases of infarction recorded in Portugal (164 cases), and the Faro Hospital received 182 patients on suspicion of this condition.   • Intense cold swears;
  • Nausea and vomiting.

INEM warns that, given these symptoms, it is essential to call immediately to 112 to ensure rapid and effective treatment.

Prevention is essential

The myocardial infarction remains a major causes of mortality in Portugal, stressed Rogério Moreira Marques, highlighting the importance of primary angioplasty as the main treatment. The doctor reinforced the need for an efficient emergency system and network operation among hospitals, allowing more lives to save.

To reduce the risk of infarction, INEM recommends regular medical examinations, exercise, healthy eating and avoiding tobacco and physical inactivity.

Increasing cases in the Algarve reinforces the need for rapid access to medical care and awareness campaigns so that patients recognize symptoms and rapidly trigger emergency means.
