The Brazilian consumer has faced a significant increase in the price of food and this makes most of them have to look for alternatives and adjust consumer habits when buying from the supermarket.

According to a study by Complain Here, coffee was the one that most pressed the pockets of Brazilians, with the increase of the product pointed out by 83.46% of people.

The “inflated” purchasing list follows with meat, indicated by 82.02% of consumers, while increasing prices in oils and olive oils weighed to 67.52% of them.

Fruits, vegetables and vegetables, grains, dairy and eggs were also products that impacted the pocket of those who went to the supermarket to buy.

This has made just over 28% of consumers stop consuming some foods, and have to reduce the purchase of many items and exchange some brands for cheaper options.

The Foods and Beverages Group of the Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) recorded a 0.96% increase in January, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) – fifth consecutive month of advancement at these prices.

Seeking other exits from this scenario, those interviewed by the study also pointed out that they have failed to live moments of leisure and reduced trips to the supermarket.

The study also showed that almost 59% of consumers have been doing financial reorganization to be able to feed with quality, while other people have chosen to do more price and purchasing research in different establishments.

And this scenario seems that it won’t be cleared anytime soon. According to the survey, 83.78% of people indicated that this increase should continue in the coming months.

According to Complain Here, this discharge of food not only impacts homes but also other sectors of the economy, such as retail, services, leisure and entertainment.

“And even lead to default, as it can cause difficulty in personal and family financial planning, leaving other accounts aside,” he added.
