It is another turnaround in the Barroso Mina project in Boticas. The Minas Gerais company has announced that it has a new government authorization to return to lithium prospecting. This after a precautionary action suspended the work 15 days ago.
It was another morning of surveillance in Covas do Barroso. I barely knew about the news that the mining company was going to return to lithium prospecting, Maria Loureiro went to see if there were news on the ground.
Everything is still stopped, but Savannah made known in a statement that in the coming days he returns to the activity.
Maria was one of the owners who interposed the precautionary action that suspended the work for the Lithium Mine 15 days ago.
“I had no notification”
Now, the government has issued a grounded resolution, alleging the public interest so that the British company can continue with the perforations.
“I had no notification. For me things are still as they were,” says the landowner.
For now, everything that is known about the government’s decision is through the Minas Gerais company. Savannah says the grounded resolution reiterates the state’s trust in Barroso’s lithium project.
It was the way found to circumvent the suspension of work due to precautionary action, as it is severely harmful to the public interest.
For owners it is another hard blow, but giving up is not an option in Barroso’s pits. For opponents to the mine, what will even tell is what will decide the precautionary action and other cases that are in court.
The Minas Gerais company believes that everything is being well done in a project that understands it is essential to develop the country and the region.
