Milei spared no praise for the Trump government, and applauded the dismantling of the government agency for the distribution of Usaid Global Aid, accusing it with mismanagement of funds
Among applause, the Argentine president promised on Saturday (22) to adhere to the policy of reciprocal tariffs defended by, during a conservative convention near Washington, in which he criticized “a political class with complex of God.”
The Republican President of the United States, with whom Milei has great ideological affinity, plans to apply from April 2 what he calls “reciprocal tariffs”, that is, to impose on each country the same level of customs tariffs as they apply to American products.
“Argentina wants to be the first country in the world to join this reciprocity agreement that Trump administration proposes in commercial matters,” said Milei, who was warmly received at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), around the American capital.
From March 12, Washington will also tax steel and aluminum imports of all their business partners by 25%, and Argentina is one of the Latin American countries most affected by these taxes.
“If we were not restricted by Mercosur, Argentina would already be working on a free trade agreement with the United States that is mutually beneficial,” he added, referring to the block he is part of Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.
“Second Independence”
The Argentine leader, who can meet on Saturday with Trump, needs support from the White House to negotiate a new deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), whose Kristalina director Georgieva he found this week.
“Today our countries, Argentina and the United States, need to go through a second independence; The first freed us from the power of European monarchies, the second will free us from the tyranny of the state party, ”he said in a long Spanish speech in which he occasionally interacted with the public in English.
“They say Trump and I are a danger to democracy, but in reality they are saying that we are a danger to them,” said the Argentine Ultraliberal President, who did not hesitate to support the Republican tycoon even before the November elections, when still He ruled Democrat Joe Biden.
“We are a danger to the State Party” and “they are right, we are their worst nightmare” because we have “the clear term of taking from them a power that does not belong to them,” Milei insisted.
“Right International”
The head of state defended “forming an alliance of nations […] a right -wing international ”to face“ the political caste ”. Milei spared no praise for the Trump government. It applauded, for example, the dismantling of the government agency for the distribution of Global Aid Usaid, accusing it with mismanagement of funds.
Argentine president criticized “electoral frauds like in Brazil” at a time when former President Jair Bolsonaro, a former trump ally, faces a judicial storm on accusations of encouraging a coup d’état.
“In some countries in Europe, citizens are being arrested for expressing themselves on social networks,” said Milei, echoing statements by Trump and his vice president JD Vance. It also attacked “governments with discriminatory aspirations such as South Africa”, recently criticized by Washington.
And he still came out in defense of his “dear friend” Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, whom Trump has in charge of cutting federal public spending. Milei presented Musk with a chainsaw before meeting with the billionaire on Thursday.
“What they have imposed without our consent is being eliminated without their consent,” said Milei. “Therefore we pass the chainsaw through the sectors and attributions of the state that we consider superfluous, redundants, unnecessary or directly harmful to society,” he added.
During the Milei government, Argentine inflation decreased, but poverty increased and even affecting 52.9% of the population, according to official data. Milei promised to continue using the “deep chainsaw” to “continue to reduce the size of the state”, because for him “the enemy” of Western societies is “a political class with complex of God,” called by him “State Party.”
