Extensions are an irreplaceable helper in our homes. However, not everyone knows that improper use can lead to a tragedy. Here’s a list of appliances that you should never include in the extension. Find out how to prevent dangerous situations and protect your home from fire.
Ignorance is not an excuse! You must know this before buying an extension
When buying an extension, most of us only look at its length and number of sockets. However, experts are beating an alarm. The key parameter is the cross -section of the drivers. For normal home use, you need a lengthening with a driver cross -section of at least 1.5 mm². Cheaper variants with a cross -section of less than 1 mm² pose a serious safety risk.
The extension with insufficient cross -section of drivers may overheat when the powerful appliances are connected. In the worst case, there is a risk of fire or electric shock. The investment in a high -quality extension is therefore worthwhile. Choose those that are certified and are from verified manufacturers.
Never attach these appliances to the extension! You risk life
The biggest problem is high power appliances. Never attach to the extension:
- Hot air frys
- Air conditioning
- Electric heaters
- Dishwashers
- Electric pipes
These appliances often have a power consumption greater than 2000 W. Conventional extensions are not built for such a load. Experts strongly recommend not to involve appliances over 1200-1500 W.
How to avoid disaster? Follow these rules
The basic rule is to involve powerful appliances directly into the mains. They need a separate circuit with drivers with a cross -section of at least 2.5 mm². Never connect multiple extensions into series. Any such link increases the resistance and risk of overheating.
Check the status of your extensions regularly. If you notice signs of damage, replace them immediately. Note in particular:
- Damaged cable shell
- Loose contacts
- Signs of overheating or burning
- Cracks on the cover
What to do if you don’t have enough drawers?
The solution is not to buy additional extensions. It is best to consult an electrician and install new sockets. Investment in safe wiring is always better than rising fire.
Do not disconnect three appliances from the mains. No savings. Accounts will be higher
