Ricardo Nunes disputes the position of the Attorney’s Office against a decree that vetoes motorcycle taxation via application in the city

The mayor of São Paulo, criticized on Thursday (20.FEV.2025) the opinion of the Attorney General’s Office of São Paulo. The document is opposed to the municipal decree that prohibits the motorcycle service by application in the city. Nunes considers the opinion “Absolutely wrong”arguing that there is confusion between motorcycle taxes and those offered by applications.

“Absolutely wrong. It is confusing the motorcycle taxi with application service. It’s how you say that Uber is the same as the taxi driver. With all the affection, all the respect for the prosecutor, I think he will now have the opportunity to receive more information from City Hall. We have already done, perhaps he has not read, highlighting with yellow pen, that federal law does not allow. So I regret that you have not considered the reality of federal legislation. It is being error induced, because these companies are putting that there is such an authorization ”said Nunes.

The controversy began after the Brazilian motorcycle motorcycle association moves a direct unconstitutionality action against the decision of Nunes management. The action disputes the suspension of mototaxi activity by application in the city.

Wallace Paiva Martins Junior, Deputy Attorney General, argued that the Municipal Decree exceeds the legislative competence of the Union and affects the principles of free initiative and free competition.

In response, the City of São Paulo launched a campaign on the risks associated with the use of motorcyclexis. The initiative aims to reinforce the policy of preservation to life and traffic safety.
