The minister Gilmar Mendesfrom the Federal Supreme Court (STF), approved, this Friday (21), an agreement between the Brazilian Football Confederation, five leaders of the entity and the Minas Gerais Football Federation (FMF).
Thus, the Extraordinary General Assembly and the General Electoral Assembly, responsible for the election of Ednaldo Rodrigues as president of the CBF, in March 2022.
Ednaldo, then, continues as president of until 2026. The position of the leader was at risk because of this action in the Supreme, which no longer exists.
“Indeed, the agreement signed, by reciprocal concessions, allows the termination of all legal proceedings that have as its direct or indirect object the legality of the Extraordinary General Meeting and the General Electoral Assembly,” said Gilmar Mendes.
Antonio Carlos Nunes de Lima (Colonel Nunes), Castellar Neto, Fernando Sarney, Gustavo Feijó, Rogério Caboclo, the Minas Gerais Football Federation and the CBF itself signed the agreement filed by Gilmar Mendes.
In December 2023, Ednaldo Rodrigues was removed from the presidency due to this judicial dispute. If the action was not closed, a new election should be carried out.

Understand the case
The process that caused the removal of Ednaldo Rodrigues has been active since 2018, at the initiative of the Public Prosecutor of Rio de Janeiro, still referring to the election of Rogério Caboclo, predecessor of Ednaldo.
The MP questions the Confederation Statute because it is in disagreement with the Pelé Law because it provides different weights for clubs in voting for the choice of presidents. The leaders of the 27 state federations have weight 3 in the vote, against weight 2 of the 20 clubs in Serie A and weight 1 of 20 of B.
And determined an intervention at CBF, appointing Rodolfo Landim, president of Flamengo, and Reinaldo Carneiro Bastos, as the interveners. This decision was revoked shortly thereafter.
The CBF and the Public Prosecution Service made an extrajudicial agreement and signed a Conduct Adjustment Agreement (TAC). In the new election, in 2022, Ednaldo Rodrigues, who was as an interim president, was elected for a complete four -year term until March 2026.
Gustavo Feijó, who was vice in Caboclo’s time, called the 2nd instance. The request was that the TAC was annulled, and Ednaldo removed, claiming that the judge of the first instance had no attribution to approve the document. This is what was accepted on December 7 by the TJ-RJ.
On January 4, 2024, until the case was analyzed by the plenary. The lawsuit has been based a few times, the last time on October 9, but every time there was a postponed decision.
The renewal request was made by the PC of B (Communist Party of Brazil). Mendes understood that, as FIFA did not recognize the decision of the TJ-RJ, Brazil could be harmed in immediate actions that needed the president’s signature, such as the registration of Brazil in the male pre-Olympic to Paris-2024.
The party’s entry into history is by the connection of CBF Secretary-General Alcino Reis Rocha. He has already had a membership of B PC, was a national secretary of Football and Defense of the fan and held other positions in the Ministry of Sport, between 2006 and 2011, together with Federal Deputy Orlando Silva, of PC do B, then Minister of Sport. Both are Bahians, like Ednaldo.
