Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) entered the national conservatism in a speech at the Conference of the Conservative Political Action (CPAC) in Washington. He continues that Fico, similarly, emphasized the proximity of his position with the situation of US President Donald Trump, who also recently faced an assassination attempt. “From the speech, the prime minister’s involvement with good relations with the US, or President Trump, was also evident, which is also justified with regard to his tense relations with representatives of the majority of the Member States of the European Union (EU),” Marušiak said.
He added that by pointing out common interests with the US, ideological proximity and compliance in strategic goals pointed out the prime minister of the risks that would bring the introduction of import duties into EU products. “Here it is clear that he defended the economic interests of the Slovak Republic,” He said the political scientist.
According to Marušiak, Fico’s registration for Hungarian President Viktor Orbán is not surprising, nor even his criticism of most partners in the EU. “On the other hand, negative definitions towards the nearest political, economic, but ultimately also military-security partners, which are EU Member States, may have negative consequences for Slovakia,” he says.
Marušiak did not surprise the prime ministers’ attitude towards the war in Ukraine. However, he considers it striking if he advocates negotiations on the level of great powers, without the participation of the contested country.
He also commented on the relationship of Fico and billionaire and head of the US State Administration Efficiency Efficiency Elon Musk. “I do not rule out that Fico will try to use this convergence in a struggle with home political opposition, also with regard to the influence of Elon Musk, but also other Internet giants on social networks,” added a political scientist.
The Prime Minister said in his Friday (21 February) to CPAC that Europe needs a variety of views today, because the policy of a single right opinion destroys it, and those who go upstream are pushed to the edge and punishment. Fico is, in his own words, surprised by the behavior of the European Union and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Greenland, who “have been promoting war in Ukraine for three years” and today are trying to “push” into peace negotiations between the United States and Russia. He also stressed that he was looking forward to working with US President Donald Trump.
