In their external communications, there are words they cannot write, tell internal sources. The White House denies it.
Some United States Food and Medicines Administration scientists have been instructed to fail to use certain words in external communications (dissemination of studies, for example).
In the official chats of work, they tell two different sources, circulates since last week a document entitled “Prohibited Words” (“Forbidden Words”), where “Woman”, “disabled” and “elderly”.
“I don’t understand why we can’t use a word like ‘woman’,” said one of the FDA sources that received the list. “The words on the list would make our work almost impossible.”
Another federal health agency has also been prevented in recent weeks from writing the words “Gender”, “Transgender”, “LGBT” (lesbians, gay, bisexual and transgender) and “non-binary”.
The goal is aligns with Donald Trump’s promise to take office-a America “”-and the elimination of programs that promote diversity and inclusion.
The word list, to which Reuters had access, also includes words such as “sub-reported”, “poorly served”, “under-established”, “sex”, “identity”, “diverse”, “women”, “promote” , “Definition”, “continuum”, “ideology”, “self -assessment” or “special populations”, without any explanation contained in the document.
According to the sources, the list has originated in the center of devices and radiological health, with more than 2,000 workers and that has the task of ensuring the security and effectiveness of medical devices.
The White House spokesman said, however, that most words on the FDA list did not need to be removed from communicationsand what is a wrong interpretation of scientists from Donald Trump’s words.
In recent weeks, FDA has suffered a mass dismissal of 1000 employees, from a team with a total of 20,000, in a measure of cuts in the state’s coordinated state expense.
