Blackberry is a fruit that offers several health benefits, including protection against premature aging and chronic diseases. However, in addition to fruit, its leaves can also be consumed and are rich in properties that act in the proper functioning of the body, especially in women’s health.
According to Marcella Garcez, a nutritionist doctor and director of the Brazilian Association of Nutrology (Abran), the leaves of are rich in bioactive compounds, including:

According to Debora Strose Villaça, nutritionist and nutrition teacher at the City of S. Paulo University (Unicid), blackberry leaves have been used as a natural therapeutic option for the treatment of symptoms, improving sleep quality, Functional capacity, mental health and, especially, the intensity of heat waves.

Pregnant women and lactating women should not consume blackberry leaves for the potential hormonal effect, according to Garcez. In addition, the ingredient is not recommended for people with hypoglycemia as it can further reduce blood sugar levels, and patients using drugs for diabetes or blood pressure because it can enhance the effects of medicines.
“Blackberry leaves are natural health allies, especially for menopause women, but their use should be balanced and monitored and medical advice, in specific cases,” says the nutrition. “Excess can cause diarrhea or gastric discomfort and also interfere with the absorption of some nutrients,” he adds.
