Participation until 14.00 in German elections rises 15.5 points compared to 2021 and is 52%
The German elections to choose the new Parliament are provoking a very high interest, according to the first participation data. The president of the Central Electoral Commission, Ruth Brand, has announced that at 2:00 pm he had voted 52% of the 59 million citizens with the right of suffrage. This is a percentage much higher than that of four years ago, when it stayed at 36.5%. In this count the vote is excluded by mail.
There is no obvious interpretation of what this high participation supposes, if confirmed at the end of the day. The mobilization of the undecided, who in the last days of the campaign have appealed all parties, could benefit both traditional parties (achieving the support of Germans who fear that the country enters a period of instability) and Alternative ultra -right by Germany (AFD). This vote early in the morning could also be explained by the fact that these elections have been held in February, in the middle of winter, when it obscures before, in front of the traditional September appointment of the Germans with the polls.
