The free carnival blocks are the preferred attraction among Brazilians who enjoy jumping carnival. One survey points out that 59% of people who go out to enjoy the popular party this year choose the blocks as a form of fun.
The finding is in the research the Brazilians and the carnival, of the locomotive institute. 1,333 people were heard over 18 from all over the country, between February 3 and 17.
The other attractions chosen to skip carnival are free shows (34%) and free electric trios (29%), while 28%of respondents answered paid street blocks (Abadás). Going to samba school parade is an option for 15% of revelers.
The survey identified that 35% of respondents intend to celebrate this year’s Carnival. The research details that this percentage is higher among people aged 18 to 29 years (43%). In the group of 50 years or more, the intention to enjoy the party is reduced to 28%.
Beyond the “mess”
For 70% of Brazilians, Carnival is an important cultural manifestation, while 30% consider it “only mess, having nothing to do with culture”.
When asked if Carnival should be a democratic party for all people, 69% answered yes.
“In a country with such inequality and so many abysses among classes, most Brazilians argue that carnival is a democratic party open to all,” says the president of the locomotive institute, Renato Meirelles.
For 67% of respondents, the party period is an important opportunity for people to take advantage of the public spaces of cities.
Prevention Campaigns
The research identifies that most respondents believe that the party should be experienced responsibly and agree with the need for preventive campaigns for traffic safety and the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (IST).
Almost all (96%) of respondents find it important to conduct traffic safety campaigns, while 95% have the same opinion regarding IST prevention campaigns.
“Joy need not be accompanied by recklessness. The Brazilian knows this and wants a carnival with more responsibility, ”says Meirelles.
