Musk sent emails to all civil servants: they have to say what they did last week or are goodbye

Federal workers started receiving emails this Saturday asking them to explain their work last week, when Elon Musk announced that “the lack of response will be considered a resignation.”

“Please answer this email with approximately 5 markers of what you did last week and copy your manager. Please do not send any confidential information, links or attachments ”, read in the email, which has no signature. CNN has obtained copies of email messages sent to several federal employees.

“According to the instructions of President @realdonaldtrump, all federal employees will soon receive an email asking to understand what they did last week,” Musk published this Saturday, hours after President Donald Trump suggested that he be more aggressive. “The lack of response will be considered as a resignation.”

However, the email itself does not claim that the lack of response will be considered as resignation. It says the deadline for presentation is Monday at 23:59.

Shortly after the publication of Musk’s message, Trump called the X owner a “patriot” and said he was “doing a great job” during the comments at the conservative political action conference.

Musk, which Trump hired to remodel the federal government with his government efficiency department, has not provided additional e -mail details, including the deadline and to those who would be sent. Nor is it clear if Musk’s plan is cool.

CNN came into contact with the White House to comment on the matter.

The head of an important union that represents federal workers criticized Musk’s ultimatum, telling CNN through a statement that he reflects the “total disdain of the Trump administration by federal officials and the essential services they provide to the American people.”

“It is cruel and disrespectful to hundreds of thousands of veterans who are wearing their second uniform in the civil service to be forced to justify their professional duties to this billionaire out of reach, privileged and not elected, who has never given a single time of service Honest audience in your life, ”said Everett Kelley, national president of the American Federation of Government employees.

Kelley said his union plans to take legal action to “contest any illegal terminations of our members and federal employees.”

Musk’s comments follow a Trump publication on Saturday morning, suggesting that he would like to see the technology billionaire more aggressive.

“Elon is doing an excellent job, but I would like to see you more aggressive. Remember, we have a country to save, but ultimately to make it bigger than ever. Maga! ” Trump’s post said. Musk replied, “We’ll do it, Mr. President!” in your own publication.

Emails arise when Musk and Trump seek to reshape the federal workforce – including the reduction of their dimension, the replacement of career workers with politicians, the elimination of some protections of the civil service, the end of diversity efforts And much more.

Trump administration offered federal workers “acquisitions” last month, allowing workers to leave their jobs but be paid by the end of September. The plan faced legal challenges, although a federal judge allowed last week for the Trump administration to advance for now.

And federal workers were faced the thousands in various departments, and more expected.
