Since the beginning of the year, almost 2,500 salvage has been held on the state’s edge
Increased temperatures have led many cariocas to seek sea relief at night, a practice that, although common, is not recommended by the Fire Department. Since the beginning of 2025, 13 people have died for drowning in night baths, and more than 50 rescues have been performed during this period.
The Fire Department and the Civil Defense have issued alerts to make the population aware of the dangers of the night sea bath. According to Fire Department spokesman, Major Fábio Contreiras, reduced visibility at night makes it difficult to identify risk chains, waves and submerged stones, increasing the chances of drowning. He recommends that, in case of drowning, people do not try to rescue on their own, but rather trigger the lifeguards or call the emergency number 193.
Since the beginning of the year, nearly 2,500 rescues have been held on the edge of the state of Rio de Janeiro, showing the need for extra care. Concern about night baths and at dawn is growing, and authorities reinforce the importance of following safety guidelines to avoid tragedies.
