Tavira celebrates carnival with parades, balls and a lot of animation

Under the motto “This life is two days. Carnival, there are three ”, Tavira begins the carnival festivities with a program full of animation and tradition.

The celebrations start on February 27, at 10:00, with the traditional children’s carnival parade, which will take place in Praça da República and the Garden of Bigstudent. This event promises to involve the entire school community in an environment of fun and joy.

About 1,500 participants, including students, teachers, educators and assistants of the preschool and the 1st cycle of public and private education, will leave the street to bring to the parade to life.

“The creativity and the individual imagination will be protagonists, in a party full of music, coils, paper and fantasies that guarantee good disposition to all present,” says the organization.

The festivities continue with the traditional masquerade balls, promoted by the Tavira City Council, with the support of the Tavira Parish Council. Between March 1st and 3rd, always at 9:30 pm, the Ribeira Market will be the scene of Folia nights to the sound of artists Generations (March 1), Ruben Filipe (March 2) and Cristiano Martins (March 3 ).

To mark the carnival and keep this tradition alive, the municipality of Tavira organizes, on February 22, between 14:00 and 16:00, the workshop “Grotesque Mask”, at the Municipal Museum – Palace of the Gallery.

This initiative aims to sensitize participants for the grotesque decoration present in some Tavira buildings and reinforce the importance of the Mediterranean diet, cultural and immaterial heritage recognized by UNESCO.

“Fantastic figures such as a man with fish tail, a musician and a dragon are great inspirations for creating a mask to wear at Carnival,” explains the municipality of Tavira in a statement. The workshop is intended for families with children from 6 to 12 years old and has limited vacancies to 10 participants, requiring a minimum of 4 for their realization.

Entries are free and mandatory and can be made by form. For more information, interested parties can contact the number 281 320 545 or send an email to.

With a diverse program and the promise of much animation, Tavira prepares to celebrate Carnival with music, color and tradition, ensuring unforgettable moments for the whole community.
