On Fat Thursday, all of Poland is mastering real sweet madness – in our country there are really large amounts of donuts. And on this day they taste as good as never. Even if someone is not a fan of this kind of delicacies on a daily basis, maybe in a few days they will reach for at least one.
Soft, fluffy, stuffed with various fillings. Traditionally, they were served even with sweet preserves, today there are many variants. With mascarpone, pistachio or vanilla cream – everyone can choose a donut he wants. Also the decorations are different – powdered sugar, sweet icing, colorful sprinkles.

Prepare the following ingredients:
Cake:
- 1 kg of wheat flour,
- 100 g of fresh yeast,
- 6 yolks,
- 2 whole eggs,
- 500 ml of warm milk,
- 100 g of powdered sugar,
- 50 ml of vodka,
- 6 teaspoons of vanilla extract,
- 4 tablespoons of lemon juice,
- 100 g of butter,
- 1 pinch of salt.
Frosting:
- 230 g of powdered sugar,
- 4 tablespoons of warm water,
- 3 teaspoons of lemon juice,
- 100 g of candied lemon peel.
Additionally:
- 2 kg of frying lard,
- Any jam for stuffing.
Start by dissolving and cooling the butter.
Now prepare the dough for donuts. Crush yeast. Mix with half a glass of summer milk, a tablespoon of sugar and a glass of flour. Set aside in a warm place for about an hour.
When the yeast grows, add yolks, eggs, sugar and the rest of the flour. Mix Then add all other ingredients – except butter.
Knead the dough manually or with a mixer with a yeast dough hook. Knead. Until he stops sticking to his hands. Add butter and continue kneading for another 10 minutes. Cover and set aside for about an hour.
Put the dough on a board with flour and roll out into a cake about 1.5 cm thick. Cut the wheels with a wide glass and put them on a baking tray. Cover them with a cloth and set aside for another 15-20 minutes.
Fry donuts now.
In a large pot, heat a part of the lard to 185 degrees Celsius. Fry donuts in batches – 1.5-2 minutes on each side. Take out the donuts with a slotted spoon and put it on paper towels.
Cool donuts can be tilted with your favorite jam. Dress the icing.
Mix powdered sugar with water and lemon juice in a bowl. The icing should have a dense consistency. Pour the donuts with icing, you can also sprinkle with candied orange peel.
