The good work is continued earlier by Crystal Dynamics to revive the classic trilogies to this new generation of players and consoles, bringing three iconic titles from the Lara Croft saga: The Last Revelation, Chronicles and The Angel of Darkness. This remastering, published by ASPYR, offers a unique opportunity to revisit or experience for the first time some of the darkest chapters in the history of the most famous archaeologist of video games.
The trilogy presents a more mature and dark narrative compared to previous games, released in 2024 with. In The Last Revelation, Lara inadvertently releases the Egyptian god set, plunging humanity into darkness. Already in Chronicles, the game explores Lara’s past through flashbacks after an alleged impactful event (let’s avoid spoilers).
Finally, in The Angel of Darkness, Lara becomes a fugitive accused of murder involved in a plot of alchemy and ancient artifacts. This narrative progression offers a unique perspective on the development of Lara Croft’s character throughout the series and which turns out to be the main cause of the franchise reboot. However, the work of developers, much praised earlier and repeating the same feat with this release in 2025, has managed to maintain the essence of classic titles while offering significant improvements.
Very high quality remastering
Tomb Raider IV-V-VI remastering has had a significant impact on the gaming experience, with one of the most notable aspects being graphic improvement, which allows players to alternately alternate between classic and modern visuals. This update not only beautifies games, but also increases immersion, revealing previously imperceptible details in the exotic environments and the old ruins that Lara explores. Added dynamic illumination brings a new dimension to scenes, although it can occasionally make it difficult to navigate in darker areas.
When we look at the gameplay, the new collection offers a very welcome flexibility where players can choose from classic tank-style controls or a more modern configuration, inspired by the last games of the series. This option allows you to please more conservative and newbies, as well as to look for a comfortable way to play. New animations, such as slide to run and the enhanced ability to hang on edges, make Lara movements more fluid and natural. The Angel of Darkness, in particular, has benefited greatly from these improvements, with enhanced controls that eliminate much of the rigidity criticized in the original.
Unfortunately not everything is flowers, so we cannot ignore that dynamic lighting in some more closed or dark scenarios ends up making visibility impaired. The same is true of the controls update that, because of the old level design, ends up suffering a little by adjusting with commands and interaction in certain places or items. In a last criticism, Crystal Dynamic repeats the choice of the previous trilogy and did not bring the automatic save to the game, creating a small group of inconsistencies in the face of excellent remastering work.
Extra content to explore
The addition of modern features, such as photo mode and Flyby Camera Maker, enrich the experience and allow players to capture the best times during the three hours. Elements focused on updating game design, such as bosses of bosses and a screen ammunition counter improve gameplay, making combat more strategic and more intuitive resource management.
Contents that were left out at the original games, especially in The Angel of Darkness, come as a big attraction for offering fans a more complete and coherent experience of what was possible in the original release. After all, we are talking about a significant leap between generations, which has allowed developers to explore remastering very well. New areas, weapons and enhanced controls to Lara not only correct old problems, but also expand the scope of the game, providing a clearer view of the original view of developers.
You will also have the option of alternative clothing for Lara, adding variety to the heroine’s look, as well as New Game+mode, which encourages return after completion, allowing players to revisit games with acquired skills and equipment. Add it all to the more than 150 trophies and achievements, including references to iconic moments of the series, offer the players additional and reward goals, increasing the replay factor of the games.
Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is a practically perfect collection as it can balance nostalgia and modernization with mastery. Although we do not have a great attention to the soundtrack, remastering offers an enhanced experience that respects the legacy of the series. This is an unmissable opportunity to know a dark stage of the franchise with updated visuals and refined gameplay, in a collection that preserves three important games with the character while making them accessible and pleasant to a new generation of players, further solidifying the place of Lara Croft further as an icon of game culture.
