Working session drives social innovation and entrepreneurship in Faro

The municipality of Faro organized, last February 19, a work session at the Casa do Povo de Estoi, under the initiative “Portugal Social Innovation 2030”, with the objective of streamlining entrepreneurship, social innovation and investment of impact on Portugal. This project, created by the Council of Ministers Resolution No. 54/2023, of 9 June, aims to contribute to the fulfillment of sustainable development objectives, aligning itself with the principles of the European Pillar of Social Rights.

The event was attended by several personalities and responsible for the area of ​​social innovation, including the councilman and representative of the municipality of Faro, Carlos Baía, the president of the Portugal Social Innovation structure 2030, Filipe Almeida, the regional representative of Portugal Innovation Social, Francisco Fragoso, and the technical secretary of the Algarve 2030 program, CCDR Algarve, Patrícia Neto Martins. Also present were the representatives of the entities with approved and developing projects, with impact on the municipality of Faro.

The main objective of the session was to promote collaboration between the financing entities and project promoters already underway or in the phase of development in the municipality of Faro. It was intended to stimulate interaction between initiatives and ensure effective execution, ensuring positive social impacts in the territory.

Among the recently approved projects, there are several initiatives with significant social impact, such as the Ria Project-reducing food insecurity, promoted by Appia-Pro-Partillery Association and Algarve Insertion, the “Health Space 360º Algarve 2.0” project from the platform Health in dialogue, the “Accessibilities 2.0” project, of the Salvador Association, the project “Ikigai – Digital Balance”, of the Gato Association – Toxicodeperites Support Group, and the “Info.Cuidador 2.0” project of the Tavira Humanitarian Center of Portuguese Red Cross.

These join the projects approved at the end of 2024, such as the project “V”, from AIPAR-Girl and Family Support Association, the “Faro Youth Club-CJF”, promoted by SE MORE-Association For the promotion of human potential, the “Teach For Portugal Leadership Development Program” and the “Farol” project of the Setúbal Mocity Association – YMCA. In total, there are now nine projects under development in the municipality of Faro.

With this investment, the municipality of Faro assumes itself as the largest social investor in the region, with a municipal financial effort that should reach nearly 450 thousand euros by 2027, representing a global investment of over 2 million euros in the social sector of the county.

During the session, Filipe Almeida, president of the Portugal Mission structure Social Innovation 2030, encouraged the entities present to work together to maximize social results and the impact on the population. Councilman Carlos Baía, on the other hand, expressed his optimism regarding the expected benefits of projects, highlighting the diversity and complementarity of initiatives, which will have significant positive impacts on the community over the three years of execution.

The meeting culminated in a visit to the Poet Emiliano da Costa Elementary School, where the Teach for Portugal Association is being developed. The meeting was considered an important milestone in the project implementation process and represents the beginning of a series of meetings designed to maximize the impact of the investment made.

This work session reaffirms the continuous commitment of the municipality of Faro to support social innovation and sustainable development, consolidating the county as a reference pole in investment and social impact in the region.
