According to the minister, Brazil is one of the countries that suffers democratic shaking by directing the algorithm of social networks
The Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes criticized on Monday (24.FEV.2025) big techs and the use of social networks to “Attack the pillars of democracy”. During the inaugural class of new students of the Faculty of Law of USP (University of São Paulo), of which he is a teacher, Moraes repudiated what he called “New extremist digital populism”.
Alexandre de Moraes is the target of action in the United States by Rumble and Trump Media & Technology Group platforms, company of President Donald Trump (Republican).
“Big techs are not sent from God, as some want, they are not neutral. They are economic groups that want to master the economy and world politics, ignoring borders, the national sovereignty of each of the countries and the legislations to have power and profit ”said Moraes, according to the Economic valuestating that such companies distort concepts such as democracy and freedom.
“Freedom to do what they want, because they are the largest economic groups in the world”Moraes pointed out during the speech. “Democracy is a business, the big techs say. Because everything for big techs is money, it’s business: ‘Just as we sell cars, let’s sell candidates.’ ”
According to the minister, Brazil is one of the examples of nations that have undergone democratic disturbances in recent years because of the direction of digital platform algorithms.
“Worldwide, the big techs were instrumentalized to attack the 3 pillars of democracy”he said. “Nowhere in the world these far right groups say they are against democracy. They say: ‘This democracy […] There are frauds, so this is not worth, if I lose [eleição] It’s not worth it, it only has democracy if I win. And in order to strengthen democracy, I have to seize power. ‘ This is the speech ”said Alexandre de Moraes.
The minister also mentioned his departure from the social network X (former Twitter) last week. “I don’t have [rede social]as you may know. I can’t even get out of the X that already come down ”he said. Moraes also stated that the platforms “They work with love or hatred, there is no room for middle ground”.
