The decision aims to monitor international practices and provide greater convenience to citizens, reducing the need for frequent renewals.

In addition to the extent of validity, the document will have a new graphic design based on the theme “National Territory”, which aims to highlight geographical and cultural elements of Portugal. The government has announced that the choice of image will be made through a contest open to citizens.

The new version of PEP will continue to fully comply with the recommendations of ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization), ensuring the security of the document data and authenticity. Among the reinforced aspects, include:
