Government opens extraordinary credit of R $ 4.2 BI to the Safra Plan

Provisional measure to unlock the incentive to the agricultural sector was published in the Federal Official Gazette on Monday (24.FEV)

The Government of the President (PT) published on the night of this Monday (24.FEV.2025) an MP (Provisional Measure) that guarantees an extraordinary credit of R $ 4.2 billion to the crop plan. The measure included in extra edition of the Federal Official Gazette ensures the continuity of credit lines of the agricultural sector promotion program that had been suspended by the National Treasury since Thursday (20.FEV). The Treasury suspended new hires of the Plan Safra because of an update in the estimation of spending on the “Inventory of rural operations contracted with interest rate equalization”as well as non -approval of the 2025 budget. The publication of the MP was already expected. Since blocking the credit lines, the government has moved to calm the major producers in the agricultural sector and sewed a solution in 5 days. On Friday (21.FEV), the Minister of Finance, there was already the Planalto would open the special credit.

The decision to suspend new lines of financing from the Safra Plan was valid that day and did not affect the credit operations of Pronaf (National Program for Strengthening Family Farming). It reached, however, the large producers.

The block of credit lines was also expected within the government. The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro,, also in the 6th (21.FEV), that the Planalto knew it would run out of resources to continue the program. Fávaro also stated that Lula determined a resumption “Fast” of the crop plan.

“We were following that at any time would need to paralyze because it would no longer have resources”said Fávaro. “The decision was made to prioritize Pronaf, not cut off Pronaf’s resources and talk to the control bodies.”

Extraordinary credit was opened with the endorsement of the (Federal Court of Audit). Haddad sent a letter in which he consulted the president of the Court of Auditors, Minister, about the possibility.
