Health tourism has recorded significant growth at global and in Portugal, boosting the development of innovative digital tools to improve the access, quality and efficiency of medical services for international patients.
It was in this context that, on February 20, the Paços de Cidue County building in Lagos, in Lagos, hosted the XII Meetup Digital Health Portugal, an event that brought together specialists, technological companies, medical tourism professionals and representatives of the sector of Health to discuss the latest innovations in the digitization of health services.
The opening session had interventions by Hugo Pereira, mayor of Lagos; André Gomes, President of Algarve Tourism; Ana Marreiros, vowel of the board of directors of ULS Algarve; Paulo Bernardo, administrator of W4M Digital Solutions and Paulo Nunes de Abreu, one of the founders of Digital Health Portugal.
Technology and Security in Health Tourism
Throughout the event, essential issues such as the creation of multilingual digital interfaces, distance management tools and patient data security were addressed. Discussion panels and presentations have highlighted success cases and emerging trends in digitizing medical services, underlining the role of technology in the international patient experience.
Among the topics discussed, “Regulation and Safety in Health Tourism” and “Digital Health: Future Trends in Health and Wellness Tourism” generated particular interest and discussion, given their relevance in the current context.
The president of, Hugo Pereira, highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating that “it is an honor to be a co -organizer of this relevant event, for all the knowledge and learning that it has provided.”
The mayor also stressed that “health and well-being tourism has enormous potential in the region, with high quality infrastructures, with only the organization of the region around this goal lacking.”
In an increasingly competitive international market, the XII Meetup Digital Health Portugal reaffirmed the sector’s commitment to promote innovation and digital transformation in health tourism, ensuring that Portugal and the Algarve continue to assert themselves as reference destinations for international patients.
