On the way to e-mobility: it is now too late for a change of lane

Times are hard for the European auto industry. Donald Trump drives Europeans into the parade in climate and customs policy, the competition from China around the manufacturers. The development costs for more climate-friendly e-mobility are high, which melt profits, and demand is behavior. Nevertheless, the car manufacturers have to sell significantly more electric cars on the way to climate neutrality this year, otherwise high penalties will be due. Is that really the right way in view of the difficult economic situation? Shouldn’t we rethink the (stages) goals?
